COMMANDS:

You can access all the commands in the @FRX window with the right mouse button. From the @FRX-Favourites and @FRX-Options windows, and the Menubar, Channel and Query pop-ups, only some commands can be accessed.

If you accidentally close the @FRX window and have no way of opening it back up, type the following in any mIRC window to open it up again:

/FRX
or use the FRX command in any FRX window, Menubar, Channel or Query pop-ups.

Other aliases that can be used are:

/FR-Run [channel/nick] This will run the file and send CTCP and description. You can have more than one file in the parameters for /FR-Run.
/FR-RunNC [channel/nick] This will run the file and send description.
/FR-RunS This will run the file without sending CTCP or description.
/FR-RunCD [channel/nick] This will send CTCP and description but won't run the file.
/FR-RunD [channel/nick] This will send description but won't run the file.

Note that if the active window is the Status Window, no CTCP and descriptions will be sent even if specified in the parameters. (Channel/nick is optional in each case.)
Starting with v5.0, you can see what version of FRX another user is using by sending them the CTCP .FRX. For example, to find out what version of FRX Ren-sleeping is using, type:

/CTCP Ren-sleeping .FRX
Versions earlier than v5.0 do not have this feature and will not reply.

@FRX Window:

The main FRX window where all the messages are shown. Double-clicking on @FRX will:

  1. Clear the @FRX window if there is any text in it.
  2. Open all FRX windows if there are no text in it except the intro and if not all specified FRX windows are opened (see Program Options).
  3. Close all FRX windows if there are no text in it except for the intro and if all specified FRX windows are opened (see Program Options). Note that everytime FRX windows are closed, their sizes/positions are saved.
The listbox on the side of the @FRX window contains two sets of commands: Ext and Win. You switch between them by double-clicking on --Ext--» or «--Win--.

Ext consists of the extensions that are currently set. The @FRX Run, Send Only, Time and Association commands will be processed for the selected extension. Double-clicking on an extension will start the Run command. The first four Win commands allow you to open/close any or all FRX windows quickly by double-clicking on the corresponding command:

    All - Open/close all FRX windows
  1. Main - Close @FRX window
  2. FavFiles - Open/close @FRX-Fav window
  3. Options - Open/close @FRX-Options window
  4. Active - Sets the active channel/query target of the @FRX editbox.
You can also add your own commands to the listbox using the Listbox|Set/Edit command in the @FRX pop-up. If you are not using an old frun-ext.ini, there is already one added (Refresh), which refreshes the @FRX window.

Text can be entered in the editbox (headed by /FRX:):

  1. Ordinary text is sent to the current channel/query/chat window (shown in the titlebar of @FRX). The Active window can be changed using the Refresh pop-up command (under the @FRX window) or the Refresh or the Active @FRX listbox commands.
  2. IRC and mIRC commands, aliases, etc. are performed. Note that if you enter a command/identifier/etc. incorrectly, a message will appear saying that there is an error in one of the FRX ini files because FRX was attempting to perform your command. Identifiers (eg. $dir, $?, $len, etc.) and variables (eg. %variable) can be used. The symbol | can be used to separate multiple command lines.
    eg. You can enter: /me calculates 1 + 3 | The sum is $calc(1 + 3)

    Result:

    * YourNick calculates 1 + 3
    The sum is 4

  3. FRX Text commands can be used (eg. !Help).
FRX Text Commands:

These commands can be typed in the Editbox of the @FRX window (after the /FRX:), or they can be typed in any mIRC window as long as they follow the alias command /FRX: (eg. /FRX: !Show Set). These commands perform the same actions as the commands in the pop-ups. If you enter an incorrect parameter (if applicable), a brief help would appear telling you what the correct ones are.

@FRX-Fav Window:

The @FRX-Fav window is opened when you choose in the main FRX menu "Show" under "Favourites" or double-click on FavFiles in the @FRX sidebar. Files can be run by double-clicking on the filename in the @FRX-Fav window.

For the @FRX-Fav window, you can manoeuvre around different lists ("subdirectories") by double-clicking on <. Main .> to return to the main listing or <. "list name" .> to go into the individual lists. You can type the first letter of an entry to jump to it.

(Back to the top)

@FRX-Options Window:

Double-click to collapse/uncollapse trees and to change options. Trees (ie. have subcategories) are either one of the three main groups of options (Program, Run and Display) or are displayed in light blue. Right-click to get the pop-up menu, which has commands to collapse/uncollapse the trees quickly.

(Back to the top)

The Pop-Up Commands:

* FRX

This command opens the @FRX window and is available in @FRX-Fav, @FRX-Options, the Menubar, Channel and Query pop-ups.

(Back to the top)

* Run File

* CTCP/Desc
* Desc Only
* Silent
This runs a file and send CTCP if so chose. If the command is used from the @FRX-Fav window, the selected file is run. You can also run files by dragging-and-dropping files to target windows; the files will be run and their CTCP, if any, sent. Silent means that no CTCP and no action/file description will be sent. Note that CTCP and descriptions cannot be sent to the mIRC Status Window.

If no association is set with the file extension, the file will be run with the Windows default. Note that the FRX windows minimize when this command is used. CTCP will be sent to the first window below the FRX windows. When sending SOUND CTCP with filenames that have spaces, the spaces are replaced by ? in the CTCP to prevent mIRC from misinterpreting the part after the first space as being a message.

If the NickList Send toggle is on (off by default) and the active window is a channel, CTCP is only sent to selected nicks in the nicklist of the channel unless yours is the only nick selected, in which case, the CTCP is sent to the entire channel.

Furthermore, the file you run is added to the end of the recent files list if it does not already have an entry and if the Track Recent Files option is on.

The Run File command is accessible from all FRX windows and pop-up menus.

The following prompts appear unless you're running the file by drag-and-drop or from the @FRX-Fav window.

File Extension (optional):
Enter the file extension of the file you want to run.

Choose the file:
Pick the file you want to run. If you did't enter the file extension in 1), the script will try to find the extension, assuming that the extension are the characters after the final period. The script will try to run the file according to association options for that assumed extension.

The file will be run, and if the CTCP sending option is on and if the Run|CTCP/Desc command was used, the CTCP will be sent to the active window. If the active window is a non-FRX custom window, the Status Window, or non-existant, no CTCP will be sent.

(Back to the top)

* Send Only
* CTCP/Desc
* Desc Only
These commands do not run the file but just sends the CTCP and file description or only the file description. These commands are available in all pop-ups.

(Back to the top)

* Timers

These commands are accessible from all FRX windows.
There are two types of times:

* Scheduled
This type of timer is set with a date and time (can be daily). Set timers are not affected by disconnection. Note that FRX sets this type of timer by calculating the number of seconds until the set time. Leap year is not taken into account and calculation requires that the dates are after January 1, 1997. For each set timer, this calculation is re-done everytime you open mIRC, so it should not be a problem unless you keep mIRC opened and connected over February 29. Also, the timer will only go up to December 31, 1999. When year 2000 comes around, I'll probably be modifying FRX to work with it.

* Quick
This type of timer is a countdown timer (in seconds). Note that these are not saved across sessions (ie. closing mIRC will erase all of the set Quick Timers). Set timers are not affected by disconnection.

When a timer goes off, the setting is automatically removed unless it is a Daily timer.
The following commands are available for the two different types of timers:

* Show
This shows all the currently set scheduled or quick timers.

* Set
This sets a timer to run a file at the specified time.

Choose the File:
Pick the file you want to run. If this was run from the @FRX-Ext window, the list of files shown will have the selected extensions. If this was from the @FRX-Recent or @FRX-Favourites window, the selected file will be the chosen file and this prompt will not appear.

Date (mm/dd/yy): (Enter nothing for daily)
Time (hrs:min):

Enter the date and time in the specified formats.

* Unset
This unsets a currently set timer. Remember that timers continue to run while you perform commands. Therefore, timers can change even while you decide which timer to unset!

* Refresh
This refreshes the scheduled timers if they get stopped or mixed up unexpectedly. This command is only available for the Scheduled Timers.

Timer to unset:
Enter the displayed number of the timer you want to unset.
(Back to the top)

* Favourites
This contains lists of files that you add yourself. Except for the Recent Files section, there is no set maximum limit to the length of these lists. The following commands are accessible from the @FRX and @FRX-Fav windows.

In the main favourite files screen, "subdirectories" or lists (which you add yourself) are shown as List Name >. and within each list, the first line is Main >. followed by a list of files. Double-clicking on a list name will open up the selected list and double-clicking on Main >. will take you back to the main favourite files screen.

The alias /FR-FavConvert is included to convert a list of filenames to a favourite list. Type the following in any mIRC window:

/FR-FavConvert

The list must be a text file, with one entry per line, in a format such as this:

c:\subdir\file1.mp3
c:\subdir\file2.wav
c:\othersubdir\file4.mid
c:\subdir\file10.exe
You will be asked to enter a name for the new list. After the conversion, the list file can be deleted.
* Show
This opens the @FRX-Fav window. To run a file, just double-click on a filename. If CTCP option is on, the CTCP will be sent to the current active window (not counting the FRX windows). Right-clicking on the window opens a pop-up menu. The name of the current favourite files list and the number of entries are displayed in the titlebar.

* Add

(A) In the individual Favourite Files listing screens, this is used to add files to the list.

File to add:
Choose the files you want to add to the list one at a time. Entries are always added to the end of the list. The names and paths of these files will be stored in the current favourite files list. This prompt will repeat until you press Cancel to end the operation. Note that FRX will check for redundant entries and skip them.

(B) In the main Favourite Files screen, this is used to create a new Favourite Files listing. Just create a name for the list. Spaces are allowed but *, ? and o, o1, o2, etc. are not. You also cannot name a list a single number. * Add Type
The following prompt appears:

Files to add:
Choose a representative file. The files fitting both of the following criteria will be added to the Favourite Files list:
  1. Same extension as the representative file
  2. In the same subdirectory as the representative file (subdirectories under this are not looked at) Note that FRX will check for redundant entries and skip them.
* Names
These commands have to do with the entry names.
* Rename
This renames the selected entries to new names. Names can have spaces but cannot contain ? or *. Note that these names are displayed as the description when running files if the Fav Names as Desc option is on.

* No Paths
This renames the selected entries to filenames without the paths displayed. Note that these names are displayed as the description when running files if the Fav Names as Desc option is on.

* Restore
This restores the selected entries to be displayed as filenames with paths.

* Targets
* Show
This shows the filenames that the selected entries in the current favourite files list are actually directing to (if the entries have been renamed from their original filenames).

* Edit
This changes the target that a renamed file entry is pointing to.

* Copy
This copies selected file entries to another list. It cannot be used in the Main Favourites Screen.

* Remove
This command can be used to remove list(s) when in the Main Favourites screen or file entries when within individual lists.

* Update
This command removes any entries that refer to files no longer existing. It cannot be used in the Main Favourites screen.

(Back to the top)

* Association
These commands are available from the @FRX.
* Show
This prompt appears:
Extension to show (Enter . for all):
Pressing Enter or Cancel would cancel the operation. Entering . would show all the file associations you have made plus their current settings. To show the settings for a single association, enter the extension (eg. mp3). If the association for that file extension does not exist, all file associations and their settings will be shown instead.
* Set/Edit
* All
* Paths
* Program
* CTCP
* Attributes
These are used to set any or all of the associations listed above with a particular file extension. These are also used to edit existing file associations.

Actually, setting file associations is only necessary if one of the following is true:

  1. You want to listen for CTCP with this extension and to run the file with a program when the CTCP is received.
  2. You want to start in a particular directory when you choose files with that extension.
  3. You want the files to be run with a program other than the Windows default.
The list of current associations are shown in the @FRX window.
The following are the prompts that pop up when you set a file association.
File Extension:
Enter a single file extension. For example: txt

If the extension has been previously set, the current settings are shown and this question pops up:

Replace all existing values for ? (Y/N)
Pressing Cancel would abort the operation. Answering "y" would erase all of the associations with that extension. Answering "n" would replace only the ones that you enter. Note that the existing associations are not replaced/erased unless you complete the Set File Association operation.

File Path 1:
This prompt is repeated (replacing 1 with increments of 1) until you enter nothing. All the paths entered will be recorded. Enter one path at a time.

Path 1 is the directory where you will start in to pick the file to run when you use Run with this extension. When a CTCP is received for this file extension (and the CTCP option is on for this extension), FRX will search under these paths starting with Path 1 (including its subdirectories) until it finds the file or until all specified paths (and their subdirectories) have been searched.

Note that if you had previous paths set, you can remove them or add to them. However, FRX does not check for redundant path entries.

Associated Program 1:
This prompt is repeated (replacing 1 by increments of 1) until you press cancel. All programs chosen will be recorded. Pick one program at a time.

Program 1 is the program used to run files with this associated extension. Program 2 and after are only there so that you can easily switch and designate another as primary program (Program 1) using the Primary command.

Note that if no program is set, the script will use the Windows default for that file extension when you run the files with that extension. The exception to this is the WAV and MID extensions, which are played with the built-in mIRC SPlay command if no associated program is set.

Note that if you had previous programs set, you can remove them or add to them. However, FRX does not check for redundant path entries.

CTCP 1:
The prompt is repeated (replacing 1 by increments of 1) until you enter nothing. All CTCP commands entered will be recorded. Enter one CTCP command at a time.

CTCP 1 is the CTCP command sent to the active window when you run a file with this extension. When a CTCP request for a file with this extension is received, all CTCP commands entered here will be checked for, starting with CTCP 1. Note that when sending SOUND CTCP with filenames that have spaces, the spaces are replaced by ? in the CTCP to prevent mIRC from misinterpreting the part after the first space as being a message. (WAV and MID commands are automatically listened for if you have the mIRC Sound Request option turned on.)

Remember to turn on listening to CTCPs in your remote or no CTCPs will be accepted no matter what.

Note that if you had previous CTCPs set, you can remove them or add to them. However, FRX does not check for redundant path entries.

* Attributes
These refer to specific attributes about file types. These can only be set by using the Set/Edit|Attributes command.
File Extension:
Enter the extension. If the extension is not currently associated, an entry will be created for it.

Minimize on Run? (Y/N)
If you enter Y, when you run a file with this extension, the program is minimized.

Ignore during MIDI? (Y/N)
If you enter Y, this CTCP will be ignored when a MIDI is played using mIRC's built-in splay feature. Note that if MIDIs are played with an external program, this option will not work. Furthermore, if WAV and MID are not set associations, the SOUND CTCP of WAV and MID are automatically ignored when a MIDI is played with SPlay. This prompt only appears if the CTCP option is set for this extension.

* Unset
* All
* Paths
* Program
* CTCP
These commands unset a previously set file association. The list of current associations are shown in the @FRX window. Attributes can only be edited with the Set command above.
Extension to unset (Enter . for all):
Just enter a previously set file extension you want to unset, or enter . if you want to unset all associations.
* Primary
* Path
* Program
* CTCP
This is used to switch the primary path, program or CTCP for an association. The primary path is the path that opens for choosing the file when you use the Run command with the associated file extension. The primary program is the one used to run files with the associated extension. The primary CTCP is the CTCP that is sent when you run a file with the associated file extension.

Enter the number of the path, program or CTCP to specify it as the new primary path, program or CTCP.

(Back to the top)

* Files
* Describe
* Alt Name
These commands are only available from the @FRX window. Describe is used to set a description for a file that would be displayed in the channel/query message in place of the filename when you run the file. Alt Name refers to the alternate name(s) that are listened for in CTCP reception when other people use a different filename for the same file you have. In this case, except for the CTCP (which still uses the original name's CTCP command), all attributes (path, program, ignore during MIDI and minimize on run) used are those set for the alternate name.
* Show
The current files with set descriptions/alternate filenames are listed.
Entry to show (Enter . for all):
Pressing Enter or Cancel would cancel the operation. Entering . would show all the file descriptions/alternate filenames you have made. If no description/alternate filename has been set for what you entered, all descriptions will be shown.
* Set/Edit
This sets/edits a file description/alternate filename.

To describe a file, select the file or select nothing and enter the filename manually to edit. Then enter the description. You can use color, bold, underline and reverse codes. Set descriptions over-ride the Fav Names as Desc option.

To set an alternate filename, enter the alternate to listen for. Then select the file that this alternate name will refer to.

* Unset
This unsets a file description/alternate filename for a particular file. You can unset all descriptions or alternate filenames by entering a period (.).

(Back to the top)

* Messages
These commands are used to edit the messages that are randomly displayed when files are run. These can only be accessed from the @FRX window.
* Show
This shows the current set of messages from which FRX picks randomly to display. A locked message's number is displayed in orange with an asterisk.

* Add
This is used to add new messages from which FRX can pick from.
The following prompt appears:

New message:
Type in your message using the normal mIRC color/underline/bold/reverse codes plus the following two codes:
where the filename (or description if you set it for that file) is displayed
where the file size is displayed
where the active window (Channel or Nick) is displayed
For example, you can type in:
bounces10  4(34) around ...

(The squares around are bold codes, while the rest are color codes.)

After the message is entered, a prompt asks if the message you typed in is an action. You'll then be shown how the message would look and asked if you want to save the message.

In this example, the message would come out like this (replacing Ren-sleeping with your nick):

* Ren-sleeping bounces song.mp3 (1234 kb) around ...
* Delete
This is used to delete existing messages. You'll be shown the existing messages and prompted to enter the number for the message you want to delete.
(Back to the top)

* Listbox
These edit the commands in the @FRX listbox.
* Show
This shows the currently set commands in the @FRX listbox. An example is already set (Refresh), which refreshes the @FRX window.
Entry to show (Enter . for all):
Pressing Enter or Cancel would cancel the operation. Entering . would show all the listbox commands you have made. If you enter an invalid listbox command, all will be shown.
* Set/Edit
This sets/edits a listbox command. Enter the name of the command that will be displayed in the @FRX listbox. Then enter the alias(es) that will be performed when you double-click on that command in the @FRX listbox. Most variables/identifiers can be evaluated.

* Unset
This unsets a listbox command. Enter the command name manually. You can unset all by entering a period (.).

(Back to the top)

* Options
This opens the @FRX-Options window.

(Back to the top)

* Unload
This unloads FRX from mIRC. Confirmation is required.

You have the option to remove FRX variables or to keep them for the next version of FRX (so that your color settings will stay the same). Answering anything other than "n" will remove the variables.

The following line is not automatically removed from the Drag-Drop tab under mIRC Options, so you should do so manually if you want to completely unload FRX:

*:fr-run $1-
(Back to the top)

* Help
* Document
This opens the FRX document (DOC or HTML format depending on the setting in the Program Options).

* Editbox
This displays a brief list of text commands that can be entered in the Editbox.

* Homepage
This loads the FRX Homepage (NK's Corner).

(Back to the top)

* Windows
These commands are accessible from all FRX windows and pop-up menus.
* Refresh
If the you're accessing this command from the @FRX window, this refreshes the Active window that you can type things to. All custom windows are minimized and then restored, after the first channel, query or chat window beneath them is found and set as the Active window.

Using this command in another FRX window would refresh that particular window.

* Open
This opens all FRX windows.

* Close
This closes all FRX windows.

* Minimize
This minimizes all FRX windows.

(Back to the top)

* Clear
This clears the buffer of the current window. This command is accessible from the pop-up menus.

(Back to the top)

For the @FRX-Fav window, there is an additional command heading:

* List Editing
These are used to order the recent files and favourite files lists.

* Up
* Down
* Top
* Bottom

* Position
This can be used to move the selected entries to the specified position. Valid positions are:

  1. A number between 1 and the current number of entries inclusive (but excluding the numbers between the first and last selected entries)
  2. Up, down, top or bottom

* AutoSort
This command sorts and saves the Favourites list alphabetically.

(Back to the top)

For the @FRX-Options window, there are the following pop-up commands:

* Default
* UnCollapse
* Collapse

The Default command restores the default collapse/uncollapse state of the trees. UnCollapse and Collapse are used respectively to uncollapse and collapse all or specified main trees (Program, Run, Display and Pop-Up). Note that using the pop-up Collapse/Uncollapse command on specific trees will do the opposite to the other main trees.

(Back to the top)

For the Menubar, Channel and Query pop-ups, there is an additional command to turn on/off pop-up menus:

* Pop-Ups On/Off

* Menubar
* Channel
* Query
(Back to the top)

Options:

* Program Options

* Default Program Options
This restores the default settings for all the program options except FRX Path.

* Set FRX Path
This sets the path FRX reads from and stores the data files. You will be prompted as to whether to copy the frun-ext.ini file (the file containing all the settings/data) to the new path (unless the file already exists in the new path).

* FRX Doc Format
This toggles the format in which the Help commands open the help files (DOC or HTML). The default setting is DOC.

* Windows
The Start-Up options refer to the opening of the corresponding window on mIRC start-up. The default setting for each is on.

* Open on Desktop
If this toggle switch is on, the FRX windows (@FRX, @FRX-Fav and @FRX-Options) will be opened on the desktop. The default setting is off.

Start-Up Main (@FRX)
Start-Up Favourites (@FRX-Fav)
Start-Up Options (@FRX-Options)

* Double-Click FRX
This specifies which FRX windows are opened when you double-click on the @FRX window. The default setting is on for each.

* Open Favourites
* Open Options

* Pop-Ups
Each toggle switch turns off the corresponding pop-up. The default setting for each is on. * Menubar
* Channel
* Query

(Back to the top)

* Run Options
* Default Run Options
This restores the default settings for all the Runner, Send and Receive options.

* Runner

* Track Recent Files
If this toggle switch is off, FRX will not keep track of recent files that you run. The default setting is on.

* Set Max Recent
This is used to set the maximum number of listings in the Recent Files List.
The following prompt appears:

Enter maximum (1 to 100):
Enter the maximum number of listings you want in the Recent Files List.
Large numbers are pretty hard for you to manage though.

Note that if the new maximum is less than the current number of files listed, the bottom files outside of the maximum are no longer kept. The operation is cancelled if you enter nothing or press Cancel.

* Message Lock
This is used to control which single message is displayed (rather than randomly picked) when you run a file. Enter the number of the message. Double-clicking on it again will turn it off.

* Description
If this toggle switch is on, the set file description is typed into the active window when you send CTCP of that file. If no file description is set, the entry name of the file in the Favourites List is shown if it exists and if the "Fav Names as Desc" option is on. Otherwise, the filename is shown instead in a random message. You can add your own random message very easily using the Message Editor. The file size (in kb; in bytes if smaller than 10000 bytes) is also shown in the random message. The default setting is on.

* Fav Names as Desc
If this toggle switch is on and if no description is set for the file you are running, the entry name of the file in the Favourites List is sent as description. The default setting is on.

* Logging
If this toggle switch is on, runs and ctcp receptions are logged to the file FRX.LOG in the FRX directory. The default setting is off.

* Minimize Custom
If this toggle switch is on, any custom window is minimized, when a file is run, until a channel/query/chat window is found. The default setting is on.

* Send

* Master Send
If this toggle switch is off, no CTCP will be sent when you run an associated file extension. The default setting is on.

* Non-Set Extensions
If this toggle switch is off, no CTCP will be sent when you run a file with an extension that has not been set. The default setting is on. Note, however, that no CTCP will be sent regardless of what this toggle switch is if the Master switch is off.

* Use NickList
If this toggle switch is on, running a file will only send CTCP to the selected nicks in the nicklist of the active channel window unless none are selected; FRX does check for yourself being selected and will not send CTCP to self. The tag in the description will be replaced by the selected nicks rather than the channel name. If no tag is present, the selected nicks are placed in paranthesis at the end.

To send CTCP to the entire channel rather than selected nicks, select only yourself in the nicklist or turn this toggle off. The default setting is off.

* Receive

* Master Receive
If this toggle switch is off, CTCP requests will be ignored and no beep/notice will occur. The default setting is on. Remember to turn on listening to CTCPs in your remote or no CTCPs will be accepted no matter what.

* Show in @FRX
If this toggle switch is off, no messages are displayed in the @FRX window when a CTCP is received. This option does not affect whether files will be run or not, nor does it affect logging. The default setting is on.

* Long Filename
If this toggle switch is off, any long filename that is received is stripped down to 6 characters with "~1" plus the 3-letter extension. This is only for CTCP receptions.

For example, this_example.sample would become this_e~1.sam
Obviously, this is just a similation of converting long filenames to short, since all names will be assumed to have ~1 rather than any higher values. The original long filename will still be displayed in paranthesis in the @FRX window. The default setting is on.

* Beep
If this toggle switch is on, a beep will be sounded when a recognized CTCP is received. The default setting is on.

* Notice
If this toggle switch is on, a message is displayed in the active window (unless it is one of the FRX windows) whenever a recognized CTCP is received. The default setting is on.
